Process Statistics

Using the Process Statistics task it is possible to study statistical information about work items, processes and process instances.

The Process statistics task is located in Process Administration -> Processes – Process Statistics in the Navigator tree as shown in Figure 88.

Figure 88 The Process Statistics task

Selecting the Process Statistics task will take you to the Process Statistics instances main portlet as below.

Process

Name of the process.

From (inclusive) Year and Month

From which year and month the selection should apply. The specified year and month will be included in the search.

To (inclusive) Year and Month

To which year and month the selection should apply. The specified year and month will be included in the search.

Rolling Average

A 3 month’s rolling average takes the current month data and averages it with the two preceding months. A 12 months rolling average would take the current years data and average it with the preceding 24 months.

The rolling average is a technique that is used for smoothing out data trends that might fluctuate heavily in the short term.

Process Statistics- Graphical and table views

After having defined a selection criteria and pressed the Select> button as in chapter 2.4 above, a graphical process statistic overview will become visible (see Figure 90).

The process statistics graphical view consists of three different tabs:

Graphical and table views – Period Summary tab

Figure 91 Period summary tab – Duration information

The period summary tab provides information about the different activities (work items) in a process as well as average duration time for all process instances during the selected period.

In Figure 91 we can see that the completed “Solve Issue” activities have had an average duration of 91.28 days for all process instances during the selected period.

An activity can be performed several times in a process instance and sometimes it might not be performed at all. This all depends upon what the process model looks like and in which way the process instance executes.

The #97 figure for the “Solve Issue” activity indicates that the activity, in average for all process instances during the selected period, has executed 0.97 times. This means that there in average has been almost one “Solve Issue” activity per process instance. Had the number been higher than 1, the activity would have been executed more then one time per process instance in average.

The dark green “process” bar to the right in Figure 91 tells us that the average duration time for a process instance of the selected process. In this case the average process instance duration time is 119.68 days.

Graphical and table views – Average per Month tab

Figure 92 Average per month tab

Dark green bars show process instances average duration for a specific month. The second dark green bar from the left in Figure 92 shows the average duration for all process instances in February of 2007. The same information can be found in the table view as well.

The blue line shows all process instances that have started in a specific month and the orange line shows all process instances that has completed in a specific month. The started/completed information can also be seen in the table view.

Graphical and table views – Rolling average per month tab

Figure 93 Rolling average per month tab

When specifying the process statistics selection criteria (se field explanations in Table 56) it is possible to choose either a 3, 6 or 12 months rolling average. The result of the rolling average will be presented in the Rolling average per month tab.

In Figure 93 a rolling average per month of 3 months has been selected. Hence, here, dark green bars show the process instances 3 months rolling average duration. The blue lines shows an 3 months rolling average of started instances and the orange line shows completed instances.
